Overview
Self-Tapping screws tap and form their own threads into the mating material. They are made form medium carbon steel and are case hardened to facilitate tapping into material
Application
Generally used for thin sheet metal but can be used in non-metallic materials
Precision
As Self-Tapping Screws form their own thread, a precision fit is achieved - improved resistance to loosening
Specification
Type AB and type C thread forming screws have 60 deg spaced threads and a gimlet point, for materials that allow plastic deformation to assist threadforming by displacement without removal of any material
Type B or F thread forming screws have 60 deg spaced threads and a tapered blunt thread. Used in light sheet metal and plastics that allow plastic deformation to assist threadforming by displacement without removal of any material
