Alongside our vast range of standard fasteners, our on-site special manufacturing capabilities enable us to manufacture and modify fasteners to the customer’s exact drawing or specification.
We are capable of producing long length, large diameter bolts in most materials including A4-80 Stainless Steel. The above picture shows 7/8″ UNC x 2.7/8″ A4-80 socket cap screws that have been machined from M30 x 100 hexagon bolts, shown in the order of the process from the original hexagon bolt through to the finished socket cap screw.
I will describe the process, which mainly takes place on a CNC machine in our workshop:
We start off with the M30 stainless steel hexagon bolt, pictured below:
First, the shank is machined. It is turned down to the required diameter of 7/8″ using the CNC and then a UNC threadform is cut, producing the fastener in the picture below:
Next, the head is machined to produce the rounded cap screw shape:
Finally, the socket is created using a spark eroder, giving the finished product:
All of the production described is carried out on-site. Alongside our huge range of standard fasteners and fixings, we have extensive stocks of semi-finished blanks, and can also forge and machine from scratch.
We can provide a 24-hour turnaround service to meet your urgent requirements.
We take pride in the quality of our fasteners as well as the service we provide, and are fully accredited to ISO 9001:2008. In-house quality testing facilities are available, enabling us to undertake tensile and hardness testing, microscopic investigation, ultrasound scanning and full metallurgical reporting.
Contact us or telephone our technical sales staff on 01942 520260 and we’ll be happy to assist with any requirements you may have.
These long, M12 x 500 hexagon bolts were manufactured in our onsite workshop and are a good example of our non-standard manufacturing capabilities.
Alongside our huge range of standard nuts, bolts and screws, we hold large stocks of semi-finished bolt blanks which enable us to rapidly manufacture to your exact dimensional requirements. We can also modify existing fasteners and are also able to manufacture fasteners from scratch as we have forging and CNC machining capabilities.
So whether you need standard fasteners, to modify existing fasteners or scratch manufacture, we have the solution to fit your requirements.
Mixed kits of stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers have now been added in UNC, UNF and Metric threadforms. In addition to our stainless range, we also sell BSW, BSF, UNC, UNF and Metric mixed packs in standard high tensile carbon steel.
All of our kits are available in three pack sizes for your convenience – 105 pieces, 326 pieces and 540 pieces.
These packs are a convenient, great value way of keeping an assortment of metric and imperial bolts, nuts and fasteners to hand.
We are not just an online shop! We have been specialists in fastener supply since 1987 and our sister company is one of the oldest bolt manufacturers in the UK, dating back to the 1800s. We understand that sometimes its preferable to speak to someone about your purchase and we are equally happy to take orders over the telephone. If you’d prefer to speak to somebody, please call our sales staff on 01942 520260 and we’ll be happy to help.
These large 2″ BSW (Whitworth) x 7″ Hexagon Setscrews were produced in our onsite machine shop using a CNC, and are a good example of how our special fastener manufacturing capabilities complement our extensive stocked range of standard industrial fasteners and fixings.
We stock standard sizes of bolts, nuts and fasteners in Metric, BSW (Whitworth), BSF, BA, UNC and UNF threadforms, and can manufacture non-standard sizes in most materials, grades and surfaces finishes. We also offer in-house quality testing facilities and are fully accredited to ISO 9001:2008.
We export nuts, bolts and fasteners worldwide – these hexagon bolts were produced for a construction firm in Austria.
For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
On a recent visit to Australia, our Business Development Manager Stuart Briscoe obtained orders for imperial nuts and bolts for an Australian power station. This follows on from our recent orders from Australian classic car restorers for BA and BSF fasteners.
The order included stainless steel and high tensile imperial threadform fasteners.
We hold the UK’s largest stocks of BSW, BSF, BA, UNC and UNF fasteners and now export to more than 35 countries around the world.
For further information, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
We were very happy to supply the fasteners for this fantastic 1977 Crossle 33F Formula Ford 2 Litre racing car.
The car is to be driven by Tom White, aged 16, and is eligible for the Historic FF2000 Championship.
We stock and can manufacture many different fasteners for use in motor sports. We supplied many different fasteners for this car, from socket screws to hexagon bolts, nuts and washers. We offer a wide range of fasteners with metric and imperial threadforms (BSF, BSW, UNC, UNF). Imperial nuts and bolts are extensively used in classic and vintage vehicles, and we hold the UK’s largest stocks.
All of us at Thomas Smith Fasteners would like to wish Tom the best of luck in his racing endeavours!
Here’s another example of our in-house special fastener manufacturing capabilities, which shows that not all our fasteners are threaded.
These 106mm x 220mm drilled pins were produced using a CNC machine in our onsite machine shop.
The above picture shows the pin inside our CNC machine during the manufacturing process. A hole is then drilled into the pin to accommodate an R Clip. These fasteners were produced for a customer in the Excavation industry.
Alongside our huge range of standard, off the shelf fasteners and fixings, we have extensive fastener manufacturing capabilities and many years of experience in providing high quality fastener solutions. Contact Gary, Stuart or Suzanne on 01942 520260 and we will be happy to discuss any requirements you may have.
The online shop is just a small snapshot of our vast range – we carry many more items than we are able to realistically list online. If an item you require is not listed, we may still stock it or be able to source it.
We can also manufacture specials to your requirements in our in-house workshop. Please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
