A Nyloc (nylon insert) Nut is a torque prevailing nut which uses a plastic/nylon insert located towards the top of the nut, reducing its inner diameter, which then deforms over the mating thread.

Metric is very popular but the imperial sizes are becoming more obselete as demand drops.

Grade U Setscrews for Export

We recently exported 1″ x 4″ BSW Setscrews Grade U BS 1083 to a client who was restoring old British made dryer cylinders on paper machines from pre 1970’s.

Grade U is not a popular grade in BSW but because of the amount of heat that the machines produce the client specificed Grade U, which will be safe in temperatures around 200 celcius.

Our sister company Smith Bullough manufactured these to specification in just 3 weeks which included forge, threading and heat treatment.

Almost 20 years since Fred Dibnah visited our factory!

We can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since Fred Dibnah came to our factory to film an episode for his ‘Made In Britain’ series giving a grand tour of the wonderful manufacturing that took place many years ago which we still do today! When we were based in Atherton, Fred would visit regularly to purchase fasteners for his steam engine, he was a very charming and charismatic man who had a passion for Engineering.

In the last 20 years we have switched from furnace fired forges to induction heating, back then grade 8.8 (metric) and Gr S/R (imperial) was the limit on manufactured bolts, we can now produce high tensile grades up to 12.9 as well as many different materials such as Stainless Steels, Exotic Alloys, Super Duplex and Non-Ferrous.

Our machinery has also improved significantly allowing us to manufacture to a high specification. We offer CNC manufacturing in house, Cut & Roll Threading, plus Secondary Operations – Turning, Milling, Drilling and Grinding.

TSF Wigan, recently welcomed Kim Needham to our fastener family, in the role of Sales & Business Development Executive.  Kim has previously worked in the fastener industry for over 10 years, so brings knowledge and experience to our team.

One of Kim’s main roles will be to help develop and maintain customers, as well as forging new and exciting avenues for the company.

Riser Buoyancy Double Bolt Tension to Drg – 316SS Material

We recently produced in our factory at Smith Bullough a part for the Offshore Industry. Tensioned risers (TTRs) have been used for deepwater applications in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore West Africa, and offshore Southeast Asia. Dry tree riser systems attached to floating production units such as spars, tension leg platforms (TLPs), and deep‐draft semisubmersibles are continually being considered for future developments, and designs have been developed for ultradeepwater. TTRs are complex dynamic structures, and the design of these riser systems is primarily governed by loading from the environment and the floater motions.

The assemblies are made from 2 riser bars, 2 studbolts and 8 full nuts.

The client wanted Western European Material with full traceability. This is no problem for us with our increased manufacturing capacity and knowledge of traceable materials to the original billets.
