The imperial threadform British Standard Whitworth was the world’s first national standard screw thread, and was devised by Sir Joseph Whitworth in 1841.
This threadform saw widespread usage in British machinery and cars, motorbikes, ships and other vehicles.
Still today, Whitworth bolts and nuts are still widely used in vintage vehicle and heritage rail restoration projects.
1/4" and 3/8" BSW threads are used extensively on camera tripods. Although the 2010 ISO standard now specifies UNC threads which have a 5 degree thread angle difference, the TPI (Threads Per Inch) match and Whitworth will still fit satisfactorily.
We carry the UK's largest range of Whitworth fasteners. Our onsite manufacturing facilities enable us to produce specials to your exact requirements.
