Rolled Thread Machine Screws
Rolled thread machine screws are so called because they are thread-rolled during the manufacturing process. A rolled thread is more accurate and stronger than a machined or cut thread. We must not be confused between rolled thread machine screws, as opposed to thread rolling screws, which are threadforming screws.
Machine screws are manufactured in medium carbon steel to strength grade 4.8 and also in other materials e.g. brass, stainless steel etc.
Machine screws are fully threaded. The thread class of fit for rolled thread machine screws is 6g in the self-colour condition. A cautionary comment, with the class of thread fit at 6g, surface-coating thickness is important, particularly on small diameters where a build-up of plating on the threads may impede assembly into the mating hole or nut.
