Whitworth Engineering Studs for Heritage Railways
Thomas Smith Fasteners recently supplied one of our Heritage Rail Customers with British Standard Whitworth Engineering Studs.

What are Engineering Studs?
Engineering Studs are steel bars threaded at each end with a plain portion.
Engineering stud bolts for trains are specialised, headless threaded rods used with nuts on one or both ends. They are primarily used in high-stress train applications like internal combustion engine components, bogies, and rail tracks where immense clamping force and vibration resistance are critical.

Why use Engineering Studs over Hexagon Bolts?
Advantages of Using Engineering Studs
✔️Less Thread Wear
✔️Pure Tension
✔️Easier Alignment
They are used in high-stress applications such as internal combustion engines and bogies, where vibration resistance is critical.
If you have any requirements for Engineering Studs, we would be happy to help. We manufacture all metric and metric fine, and all imperial threadforms, in many material grades.
